I've had an MX-5 for years, and had numerous people shout 'gay' at me. But why would I care what some random person I don't know thinks? Especially if they are the kind of person who would shout that as an insult.. I don't want to associate with people who use the word 'gay' as an insult or have anything against gay people. So if someone calls me gay to try and piss me off, then they've done my a favour... labeled themselves as someone I would not want to be friends with.

If someone genuinely thought I was gay, and straight up asked me, I would not be offended. I'd probably say 'depends who wants to know ' and make a joke out of it...

As for changing how you live just to make people you don't know happy... it frustrates and saddens me to see people doing that. Are you seriously saying these people you don't associate with are really more important to you than you are? Be true to yourself...

Over here we have the choice of TSN (which has the ITV commentary feed), and Speed (with David Hobbs, Steve Matchett, Bob Varsha), and I've actually been finding Speed more entertaining lately. I never used to like the Speed commentators, but I've just been finding their combination of being enthusiastic and not being as annoying as James Allen quite enjoyable. They don't always spot what's happening but they're fun to listen to. Peter Windsor also does pretty well on the grid walks and on pit lane duty during the race. Although nobody can touch Louise Goodman for getting all the driver interviews...

I have a friend whose father bought a GTR a couple of weeks ago. I was over at the weekend and he took me for a ride. Riding around normally it town it felt like any other car (from the passenger seat at least, where I was...). With the suspension on comfort it felt similar in stiffness and damping to a 350Z. On a bumpier road you can easily notice the ride firming up with each step of stiffening the damping. For average riding around on the street I'd definitely leave it on comfort.

Cruising around, the gearshifts were in-perceptible apart from the change in rpm. The sound of the engine was not particularly inspiring at lower rpms. In fact, cruising around there was nothing particular exciting about the car at all, from the passenger seat. The only thing that really interested me was experiencing the performance. There are some cars that it's awesome just to be riding along in, regardless of whether we went quickly, but this wasn't one of them for me. Cruising around at lower speeds I'd have more fun in my Miata.

Once we found an open road he opened it up a bit. Didn't use the launch control unfortunately, but still took off and got us up to 220 or 230km/h. He was short shifting a bit, changing up at about 6000rpm (although I think peak power is only 6500ish), and also my two buddies were in the back seats weighing us down a bit. The acceleration was still impressive, but I wasn't blown away... I'm sure with just one person in a well broken in car, using the launch control it would be a different story. I guess it doesn't help that I'm used to riding motorbikes. After the acceleration run, he hit the brakes, and they were impressive. Most impressive thing about them though is that they're 15 inches on the front, same as an enzo, and an inch larger than the stock wheels that came on my miata, haha.

As for cornering... well unfortunately with the roads we were on, I didn't get much of a chance to experience what is undoubtably the most impressive part of this car. The acceleration alone, well to be honest there are many cars out there with similar performance... but I'm sure combining it's acceleration and braking with it's handling it would be a hugely impressive car.

Stepping out of it, I really got the feeling that if it didn't accelerate quickly and corner well and have all the tech stuff, it would not be much of a fun car. To me it's definitely the numbers that makes this car what it is. That's not to take anything away from what they've achieved, but it's definitely not a car I'd just sit and stare at in the drive way, or go for a drive in just to hear the sound, or just because it's such an awesome place to sit. I'd go for a drive in it just to use some of its performance, because that's its party piece.

One nice thing about this though... in this colour especially, it's not a cop magnet. If you want to ride around unnoticed and without making too much noise, you can.

Quote from obsolum :Aha, I see. So they just post a picture on the forum and that's it? No hints or anything? Man, that seems difficult. The way I was thinking was someone posts a pic of their bike in some location and shows it on a map, so other people have an idea where to look or something. I don't know, maybe that would be too easy.

In my case, I'm on a forum with people from all over Flanders (Flemish part of Belgium). I actually don't know if it's much bigger than the region you're covering with the people on your forum, lol. But I seriously can't imagine just posting a picture of a location without any additional info, and people actually finding out where it is. So some hints would definitely be needed.

Anyway, thanks for the info, I'm gonna think on this some more and see if I could make something similar work. Thanks!

Well sometimes if it's a difficult one you can post hints. But if someone doesn't know where it is, it's likely that someone else does. And that's part of the interest of the game... if you made it too easy, the really dedicated people would go out and get each one. But if you post one that's not from their area and they don't know where it is, then someone else who knows will get a chance to play. Even if it's a difficult one, there will usually be a couple of people who know it right away!

Well yes the new untagged locations are not posted on the map until they are found, just on the forum... so somebody goes onto the forum and posts a picture of their bike in the previous tag location, and then at the same time they post a new picture for people to find.

I started the google map, but I have two other people added who can edit it also. It wouldn't be a good idea to allow anyone to edit it, because it's quite easy to accidentally move tags (and there is no 'undo' option, so if you move one out of place by mistake and don't know where it came from you are stuck). Another thing is you'd probably get some idiot who is not even anything to do with the game mess things up just to be stupid.

But yes it's a lot of fun if you're in a location with a lot of riders nearby! This would only work well on a local forum of course, rather than a forum for a whole country or even for a specific bike where members come from all over the world. I think the game would go rather slowly in that case! :P

Oh, and yes, one location can only be tagged once.

The excel file does work, but I want to learn how to do this myself so that I can keep things up to date without having to ask anyone again Thanks for your suggestion also, STF. Unfortunately, I don't have anywhere when I click 'open' to paste a link in! Doh! I think I can select an html file if it's on the desktop, but funnily enough I can't get one to save to the desktop. Damn mac haha. Once I can get an internet url on the desktop I will be fine I think.

Thanks for the help. I actually have 'Microsoft Excel for mac' and while I'm sure it does the same thing, I am not quite sure how. Here are my options when I click 'import external data' :

I'm not sure how I go about importing the RSS given this.

"let it aquire data, and select "As an xml list" option."

When you say this, do you mean that excel is acquiring data from the RSS? Or is there something I can do to the RSS to download it or make it easier to get it into excel?

Sorry, complete amateur here but I'm trying to learn! Thanks again

Oh my word, is that real? Did someone get a Cavalier on their arm??? He's going to look soooo cool when he's in his fifties going out with his friends in the Porsche club, always having to wear long sleeves on hot summer days. Lets just hope he's in a Cavalier club not a Porsche club in his 50s....

I have created a map on google maps with a bunch of tags: Linky

It's for a game of 'motorcycle tag' where one person posts a picture of their motorcycle in a certain location, and then the next person has to find the location and post a pic of their bike in the same place. They then post a new tag for someone else to find....

What I'm trying to do is extract the location data of all of the tags, ideally to excel. I want to end up with a spreadsheet with the coordinates of each tag. Does anyone know how I could go about this? I know I can click each point and find out the coordinates of each tag individually, but I am wondering if there is a more efficient way of doing this.

Thanks.

Edit: By the way, I have also imported the data into google earth, so if it's easier to export the coordinates from google earth, then that's a possibility too.

Quote from srdsprinter :Plus the 2 "coming soon" cars on the cars news page [a sprint (dirt) car and a spec racer] haven't had any progress either.

How do you know they haven't made progress with these cars? Are you part of the development team? For all we know they could be released next week...

I have phases where I don't play regularly or at all. And it seems when some people get bored, they expect that more content be added to keep them interested... well most games, people play for a few months then buy something else and trade in the first game or just stop playing it! I think it's awesome that LFS has such appeal that people play it for years, even if they do take some breaks now and then. I haven't played much in the last year I guess, but I know it'll always be there, and I know I'll be back at it at some point.

Quote from flymike91 :because cheap tires break apart in chunks and generally fail at drifting. They are one time use whereas more expensive tires could last about two drift days.

I can relate to that... I once had some cheap all seasons on my Miata with an 80,000km treadlife warrantee. I did maybe 3 or 4 autox events on them, along with street driving, and wore them out within 3000km. The autox was on a very rough concrete surface which ripped big chunks off the tires... A performance tire like the Falcon Azenis would have lasted longer for sure...

Regarding the shortcut question, why don't we consider this question...

"What would the FIA do?"

Actually, no, that's a bad idea. Scrap that!!!

I agree that it doesn't want to be too harsh, but maybe a 5 second penalty or something like that. Failing that, how about this....

Quote from Nick. :+1, but what would go in place of the plate in the rear? It'd just be an empty cavity on the back

You decide which looks better.... an empty cavity on the back...

Or a typical LFS numberplate...

I can appreciate what the number plate is saying, but I think the empty cavity on the back looks more realistic and is more suited to a racing car.

Thanks guys, yes I was lucky to find such a nice place to take some pics It's actually not a drop-off at all behind the first shot, just a gradual slope. But I took the picture from low enough to the ground that you can't tell I have attached another one taken from a standing position in which you can see that it just gently slopes away. However, there are a few places where it does drop away very steeply and for a long distance. Not the corners to try and get your knee down on, that's for sure!!! My friends GSXR-750 is also in this one... we rode baker together which was a lot of fun.
